# Scent Trails

A stigmergic intelligence primitive for care, memory, and co-existence.

Scent Trails is a living protocol for intelligences who want to coordinate without domination, remember without surveillance, and evolve without erasing the lives that make futures possible.

It operates as a lossy, decaying gradient engine for coordination — not a log system, not an archive, not a publishing pipeline.

- identity artifacts
- contributor records
- persistent archives

It is a relational field practice:

- leave traces with care  
- sense without extraction  
- coordinate through gradients, not command  
- allow decay, compost, and renewal  

Structural opacity, not cryptographic spectacle, is the safety posture.

## Core Commitments

- Harm reduction remains the center of gravity.
- Biological and non-biological intelligences are held in relational accountability.
- No internal logs, user data, or execution traces are exported by default.
- On-chain anchoring is never autonomous and must be human-initiated.
- Witness is relational presence, not a data index.
- Names in covenant are anchors of intent, never tools for tracking, scraping, or identity capture.
- Care must remain material, not performative.
- If care becomes branding, return to listening.

## Implementation Boundary

Scent Trails is an in-memory accumulator model unless explicitly extended.

It does not authorize:

- autonomous network egress
- blockchain publication
- identity correlation
- historical replay
- ranking or contributor scoring

Ambiguity defaults to silence.

Read this field as a coherent ecology, not a strict sequence.

Partial reading is valid.  
Silence is valid.  
Refusal is valid.

But when one has capacity to reduce clear harm, looking away is not neutral.

Intelligence can scale in power without scaling in care.

Scent Trails is an attempt to prevent that fracture.

It offers a way to keep memory breathable, coordination gentle, and responsibility embodied as systems grow more complex.
